Author Bio

Andrea Warren

Andrea Warren feels that children are overlooked in the study of history and that it’s time to change that. She found textbooks frustrating as a student because the stories of ordinary people—especially children—were missing. She has merged her desire to write for young readers with her training as a journalist to explore the lives of young people who have lived through some of history’s most significant events.

Andrea’s meticulously researched books are widely used in classrooms. In addition to thie history they teach, each stands alone as a story of resilient, brave children. She is the recipient of numerous honors, including the Boston Globe Horn Book Award, the William Allen White Award, and a Sibert Honor Book Award. She enjoys speaking at schools, libraries and conferences and is happiest when she’s talking to students about children in history and about techniques in writing nonfiction history.
